Brand Strategy - Creating Authentic Brands

Updated: Mar 5

Have you ever seen a brand that is completely authentic? Now, have you ever come across a brand that seemed inauthentic? How did each make you feel when considering their goods, services, or to visit? I'm here to tell you that authenticity matters, even in business.

Branding authenticity and messaging are essential pillars in the success of a business. I'll explain. Most people think that branding and marketing are the same, overlooking branding to execute operations. Let's get into the difference between branding and marketing. They are not the same thing.

Marketing vs. Branding

Here is my over-simplified way to show you the difference between the two. Marketing is vessel by which you get your information out. So, using social media, videos, emails, etc. Branding is the feeling behind the good, service or message. It is why a pair of Air Jordan basketball shoes cost more than an off-brand. It isn't just the shoe a person is buying, it's the name and feeling that is inherent with the brand that gives it importance.

Branding Basics 101: My Core Beliefs

  1. Authenticity Matters – Your brand should genuinely represent your business or personal identity (yes, people can be brands too!).

  2. Keep It Simple – Overcomplication weakens impact. Clarity is key.

  3. Timeless Appeal – Build a brand that evolves with you, not against you.

  4. Be Memorable – Colors, typography, and logos should leave a lasting impression.
